BECOME A MEMBER

Your membership helps to build the Cross Country Skiing Community in the Crowsnest Pass and supports the activities of our Club.

Our activities:

  • Grooming partnership: The CNSC purchases and maintains all grooming equipment.  Our partnerships with the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass and the Alberta Government allow us to groom cross country ski trails and the new snowshoe trails.  Volunteers are active in grooming and maintaining the trails in winter and summer.
  • Maintenance of the trails: This includes the signage, maintaining bridges and brushcutting.
  • Youth programs: Enabling youth groups to participate in Jackrabbit and Bunnyrabbit programs. This includes a very successful ski equipment loan program for participating children.
  • Other programs: Promoting social events as ideas and time permit.
  • Member Club with Cross Country Alberta and Cross Country Canada
  • Advocacy: For non-motorized recreation and the protection of the Allison-Chinook venue
  • Fundraising: To do all of the above.
  • We have Charitable Organization status so can give you a tax receipt for donations of $20 or more if you provide your full name and address and email address. An e-transfer to cnpcrosscountry@gmail.com is a good way to do this.

DONATE TODAY

Donations to Crowsnest Nordic Ski Club are greatly appreciated and will be used to further the objectives of the club.

While we do get some funding to help with the costs of grooming the trails and maintaining the equipment used for that, we rely on casino funds, grants and other donations to fund capital items such as new grooming equipment and loaner skis for our youth programs.

Crowsnest Nordic Ski Club is a Registered Canadian Charitable Organization, as such, any donation over $20 will receive a charitable donation tax receipt if an email address and full name and mailing address is provided. Having a full name and address is a requirement by Canada Revenue Agency for issuing a receipt.

There are many ways to donate:

Examples of how the club benefits from donations:

        • $20 purchases 5 Jackrabbit booklets for our Youth Programs.
        • $60 pays for 1 hour of trail grooming.
        • $80 pays to flush the brake fluid in our sleds.
        • $150 pays for our website and domain fees for a year.
        • $300 pays for the certification training for a youth coach.
        • $450 pays for grooming and track setting all our trails after a small snowfall (labour and fuel only).
        • $500 purchases a set of skis, boots, and bindings to loan to an aspiring young ski racer.
        • $800 pays for grooming and track setting all our trails after a larger snowfall (includes a pass with a roller).
        • $1500 buys fuel for trail grooming trucks and sleds for a year.

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Become a Board member – the board meets for 2 hours once a month between September and May – it consists of a president, secretary/minute taker, treasurer, trails director, youth programs organizer, social coordinator and communications chief (and past president). Each board member will need to spend additional time on club activities each month to fulfill their role.

OR  volunteer for a committee, a project or one of our annual events. The work load of our club is not overwhelming. There is the fundamental drive to keep the trails maintained and groomed and to introduce more people to cross country skiing.

Each year we need volunteers to help with:

  1. The allocation of our loaner skis to the children in our youth programs – usually in early November.
  2. The organization of our annual loppet (ski race) which we try to run on the first Saturday in February.
  3. Our wind up BBQ in early April when all the loaner skis are returned.
  4. While we do have a contractor do much of the grooming work, there are opportunities
to help with maintenance of our equipment.
  5. During the summer and fall we organize volunteer days to brush the trails and keep them free from overhanging branches that interfere with snow cover and the grooming crew.
  6. Coach the children in our learn to ski and other youth programs. Volunteers do n
eed to take a course which is paid for by the club. This is very suitable for parents who have their children in the programs.
  7. Host a moonlight ski/snowshoe.

Every 3 to 4 years AGLC assigns us a casino to work at.  We need 20 volunteers and an organizer (known as the casino chair) to do this. This is a very important revenue source for the club. The next one will be in the last quarter of 2025. If we cannot provide enough volunteers for the 4 casino shifts
we do not get the funds.

In addition to that we try to take advantage of new opportunities but keep mindful of the commitments that come with them. Fresh ideas and energy are always a welcome addition!
